CSC ACQUIRES APPLABS...CSC acquired AppLabs Technologies Private Limited, the world's largest pure-play software testing and quality management service provider. The acquisition vaults CSC into a leadership role in providing application testing services in the high-growth discrete testing market, supporting the company's multi-year strategic growth plan. AppLabs brings a strong portfolio of emerging technologies and proprietary methodologies and tools and a specialized sales force to CSC, which significantly enhances CSC's capabilities in application testing services as well as shortens time-to-market. Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

GENPACT LAUNCHES MAJOR U.S. TALENT DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE...Genpact Limited announced plans to increase its investment of dollars and man-hours in training and talent development in the U.S. Genpact has doubled its U.S. workforce in the last 18 months and expects to continue to increase its U.S. workforce through aggressive recruiting initiatives for business development, operations, analytics and reengineering positions. At the core of this effort to build talent in the U.S., Genpact is focused on providing its employees with leadership training, professional skills training, and numerous courses and professional certifications to strengthen domain expertise and provide higher-level services to its hundreds of U.S.-based clients.

CHINA TO SPEND US$154 BILLION ON CLOUD COMPUTING...China is set to pour US$154 billion to develop cloud computing hubs, according to Asia's first "Cloud Readiness Index," prepared and published by the Asia Cloud Computing Association. Although restrictive data protection laws are preventing the building of a global Cloud Computing industry in China, this investment will help the nation improve its index rating in the near future. The Index shows that a large number of cloud service providers are setting up data centres in Hong Kong making it the North Asia data hub. The South Korean government has also decided to invest US$500m in both public and private sector cloud initiatives and intends to raise their investment to US$2 billion by 2014.

New Deals

IBM has renegotiated its outsourcing contract with Vodafone Essar and signed an extended deal estimated at around $1 billion to manage IT systems for the India's third-biggest phone firm until 2017. In 2007, Vodafone had signed an over $400-million, five-year outsourcing contract with IBM. The contract was to expire next year.

CSC has signed a ten-year contract with a U.S. based global multi-brand commercial products manufacturer to provide information technology (IT) and infrastructure managed services. The contract is a global 10 year agreement with an estimated value of more than $900 million and was effective on September 1, 2011.

WNS (Holdings) Limited has signed a finance and accounting services conract with AAA of Northern California, Nevada and Utah (AAA NCNU), the second largest regional member club of AAA, a federation of affiliated automobile clubs throughout North America, for Finance and Accounting (F&A) services.
