my colleague had actually emailed Sentosa about this encounter and was told by the Sentosa guy that he had checked with his Animal Department and they assured that the creature is a monitor lizard and not a komodo dragon. The monitor lizards are harmless and will not attack humans unless provoked. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water_monitor
the sentosa guy also tell my colleague that these lizards roam around SG canals and that he actually saw one in his bathtub when he went to Changi chalet. Somemore he told my colleague that she was very lucky to have spotted one cos in all his three years in Sentosa, he has never spotted one before. haha...
