A Vegetarian Cat Called Liberation

There was a story in the papers about a special temple cat in South Korea.

This cat was found as a kitten with burnt injuries 4 yrs ago by the abbot. The abbot saved it and gave it a Dharma name "Liberation". She also gave the kitten 3 precepts for staying in the monastery:

1) to refrain from making noise in the temple
2) to refrain from eating meat and
3) to refrain from killing.

Amazingly the kitten could understand the instructions and has never violated the precepts since then.

In addition, the cat spent hours everyday in the temple venerating the Buddha, leaving reluctantly only for its strictly vegetarian meal.

True story happened in SINGAPORE

Real Happenings

This probably takes you 2mins to glance thru. But it can be quite beneficial to know what is becoming of our society. Better be safe than sorry . Better to take note.

Happening 1
It also happened to my colleague who is staying in Clementi, no other block facing his block, quite quiet, only his wife was at home but all windows closed & padlock on the gate. Something happened, a guy used keys & was trying to open the door, my colleague's wife heard the noise & opened the door, the guy saw her & just said something like 'Oh sorry, wrong house', he was holding this big bunch of keys, obviously he was up to no good, but it didn't occur to them to report it to the police. This is to warn and alert those staying in HDB.

Happening 2
It happened at my place (Clementi) last Sunday morning. My sister heard some noise at our main door( it started since 5am plus). Seems like someone is trying to open our main door and main entrance. Initially, she thought that it was someone from our family but when she look through the door, it was someone else..... a dark man wearing checks shirt - nationality unknown as he's very tan. When my father opened the door and confronted him, he gave an excuse that he's looking for someone and made a mistake. He apologised and walk away.

Happening 3
That's not all... this morning, my sister told me that her boyfriend's flat in Ang Mo Kio also encountered the same case as above. A man trying to open their door early in the morning and ran away when the owner opens the door.

Precautions
Be WARNED... make sure your doors are always securely locked.
Call the police immediately.
DON't Open the door to confront them..(we made a mistake here ), the person might be armed..
Be alert at all times especially during the bad times now.

I wonder if anybody have such experience.. It seems like it is happening here and there.. 3 cases that i've known so far. Real story from some one in Singapore. Not to scare you but just for precaution... A chilling yet important tip.

Another separate happened scenario
WOMEN SHOULDN'T LET HOUSE KEYS STRAY FROM THEIR SIDE I would like to warn women, especially young women,about the danger of giving their car keys with their house keys attached to anyone.

A good friend's daughter went to a well-known tire company to have a flat tire repaired while she waited. Without thinking, she handed her key ring with all her keys on it to the serviceman and waited. What she didn't know is that most of these places also have machines that make copies of keys. One of the servicemen copied her apartment key, and two days later, entered her apartment late at night and raped her. This was a business she frequented, and they had all the information in their computer about where she lived, her phone number, etc. The man was caught months later and the police found out that he had done this before. He is now in jail, and my friend's daughter is trying to go on with her life. I called my daughter right away and told her this story so she could learn from it, too. Please, warn your readers to have their personal keys on another key ring or have a key ring that separates the car keys from one's personal keys. Perhaps
this will save another woman from tragedy. You may never know how many tragedies you have prevented today. So gentlemen, though your chances of getting rape is slim, you may get robbed. Nevertheless do your wife or lady friends a favour, cautioned them

DIY air freshener

Please don't ever buy things from this store (They sell electronics, specialised in DIGITAL CAMERA)

I bought a PHILIPS Shaver, they sold me for S$85
The next thing I know, I saw the same stuff at WATSON, and they sell it for S $39.90
I have the picture of the seller, u guys can see here

Once I knew about this, I went back to the store and complain
I talked to the same sales person that sale the shaver to me
*He said, "I'm sorry, we cannot help you, you should have known about this before you pay, because we only do sales"*I asked them to give me a solution about how to handle this
Seems the sales person that had sale the shaver to me, didn't want to answer me anything
So I went to the other sales person
He was serving ! a customer while I try to talked to him about this (which I wish the guy don't but the camera there)
Of course my voice tone to be frank a little bit high, and I bang the stuff on the table glass display and asked for solution

And what he did after this you all never could believe this
*He THROW my shaver out from the store and the thing banged to the wall and dropped on the floor*
then he said "See there take your stuff, has spoiled already, I don't care"

Then I try to called the police, but when they came the store quickly closed the place
However, the police say they cannot do anything, since all the ppl from the store has left the store
What I can do is only report to CASE (CONSUMER ASSOCIATION OF SINGAPORE ) tell: 64631811

They cannot do anything, if I want to sue the store I need to hire a lawyer! and pay with my own money
So please guys, if any from you has this kind of thing happen to you
Like overcharged or they treated you like shit, you can help the government to report this thing to CASE (http://www.case.org.sg/)

So then when they got enough complaints the CASE can close the place down
Please read this and help to pass on to help us as a customer to be treated nicer

Locals will NEVER go to LUCKY PLAZA to shop for ELECTRONICS. Lucky Plaza is quite famous for their hard sell tactics and for RIPPING OFF (cheating) customers. Take it as a lesson learnt and next time avoids it at all costs.

Hidden Mental Illness

Some may have hidden mental illness

ABNORMAL behaviour by their loved ones, such as insomnia or paranoia, has prompted more families here to seek help from their doctors.

Psychiatrists welcome the move because sometimes these patients, who suffer from 'hidden mental illness', may not even know that they need help.

The possibility of such situations was highlighted recently in Hong Kong when a man threw his niece from a high-rise apartment before leaping to his death.

Hong Kong police said that the man could have a hidden mental illness as he suffered from insomnia.

Doctors say that family members and friends who notice abnormal behaviour can raise the alert to counsellors or psychiatrists before the affected person's condition becomes worse.

Dr Ang Yong Guan, who heads the Action Group for Mental Illness, has seen an increase in the number of family members who come to see him because they are concerned over the strange behaviour of their loved ones.

He said: 'Family members have come to see me first to describe the affected family member's behaviour. If, from history, it's very clear that he is suffering from a condition, we would advise them on what to do.

One case a month

'In the past, I would see a case like this once every few months, but now it's at least one case a month.'

Commenting on the Hong Kong case, he said: 'I think the key phrase is 'hidden mental problem'. Insomnia was a symptom of something not quite right. What the diagnosis is we don't know.

'However, if he didn't tell family members, they would not have known. Sometimes, people don't have any symptoms at all. I call this hidden morbidity - you're sick, but you're not aware that you're sick.'

He has come across people who have paranoid disorder, but they are not aware of their illness or they deny they have an illness.

'By virtue of their paranoia, they blame others. So they don't see the problems in themselves. That's more worrisome. They walk around with paranoid thoughts and beliefs. They have no insight into their illness. They are like walking time bombs.'

He gave the example of Mr Soh Eng Sim, who was diagnosed with a paranoid disorder 10 years ago.

Mr Soh, who published a book last year entitled Returning Home about his experience, only came to acknowledge that he had an illness after extensive efforts by his friends and ex-colleagues to reach out to him.

For example, they arranged a dinner with Mr Soh and invited Dr Ang along so he could make a quiet assessment of Mr Soh.

The increase in family members and friends coming forward for help could be due to more awareness of mental health issues, said Dr Ang.

He added: 'Early intervention has borne much fruit. For example, we would do a house call to talk to the patient. We may not mention that we're psychiatrists; we just say we're doctors.

'Creativity is involved in engaging such patients to help them realise that they have a problem and need help.'

Another psychiatrist, Dr Lionel Lim, has seen a similar increase in family members seeking help.

'Compared to 10 years ago, awareness has increased. So I see about 15 to 20 per cent more family members stepping forward to ask for help. It's a good thing,' said Dr Lim, who has been a psychiatrist for over 20 years.

Don't draw conclusions

But it's important that family members do not interpret the symptoms and draw their own conclusions.

'Those conclusions may not be accurate. For example, someone staring out of the window may be interpreted as sad. But it could be all sorts of things.

'While it's good for them to come forward, they should refrain from interpreting the symptoms. Just report the facts,' he said.

And of course, nothing beats having the person himself come in to seek help.

Dr Lim said: 'Ultimately, I think the fear of seeing a psychiatrist is greater than actually talking to one. Once we can overcome the first fear, the rest is not that difficult.

'Many people don't mind talking to a counsellor or a psychologist. But whether it's a counsellor, psychologist or a psychiatrist, the key to treatment lies with whoever is in the best position to help the person.'

Mr Joachim Lee, director of Tampines Family Service Centre, which provides counselling services, has also seen an increase in the number of pro-active family members.

Mr Lee said: 'Last year, we saw at least 20 such cases. The year before, it was about 10 to 15. More are coming in concerned that their loved one is acting strangely or harming themselves.

'When they come in, we teach them some self-care methods - how to help themselves and their loved ones. We also try to arrange a meeting with the affected person. If medical help is needed, we give them psychiatrist contacts.'

No matter the taxi driver is chinese, malay or indian, PLEASE BE AWARE!
If you notice that there is a sound of spray of perfume or air purifier inside the taxi, PLEASE GET DOWN from the TAXI IMMEDIATELY!!

It just happened to me just now. It was about 12.45 am . I got into a taxi driven by a malay man.. I was in the taxi for a few minutes, I suddenly heard of a sound of spray and there was a smell like air purifier. I felt weird as to why the driver put two types of air purifiers in his taxi. The smell immediately reminded me about this forwarded email that I read. I started to be aware of my surroundings. But the puff of the purifier kept appearing e! very few minutes. I was very worried and scared.

Gradually, I sensed that my body started to feel weaker and weaker. The purifier kept puffing from the back seat, just right behind me. As I really felt my whole body is weaken, I asked the driver to let me get down at the side road. But he kept trying to talk to me and ask me why not dropping me off at my destination. I think he was trying to drag the time. To my horror, I felt both of my hands and legs got numbed and no energy, almost could not move.

When I talked to the driver, I could not even speak properly, not to say to shout for help, 'cos I was really too weak... Immediately, at a traffic light I opened the door, jumped out and ran to a passer-by for help.

I really thank God for saving me. If not, I really can't imagine what would have happened to me. I am traumatized by this incident.

This is TRUE case. Please do keep in mind! IT IS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY!
I feel the need to share! with you guys, no matter you are men or women 'cos it is NOT a LIE , not a made-up story. It really happened. Do let your friends, family members and relatives know about this case. I believe you are just like me, don't wish anybody to be the victim of this case.

'Please be aware when aboard to a taxi, especially the ladies.'

I received an email some months ago about a lady getting into a cab and felt uneasy and become faint when she smelt something like incense being burnt. She was smart enough to order the taxi to stop immediately and after throwing some money at the taxi man quickly get out of the taxi. She later got to know that if she had not stopped the taxi and gotten out, she would have fainted and raped by the taxi man (or a gang of rapists)!

After reading this, I thought maybe this was one of those emails that you would read and just forget about it, but I was wrong!

Few weeks ago, a visitor to our Chinese church who stayed in Puchong got into a taxi driven by an Indian man. When she sat into th! e taxi, there was a little burner and she could smell incense burning in the taxi. After awhile, she felt weak and unable to speak or shout. The Indian taxi man drove to a lonely road where there was hardly anyone and raped her. Before she was completely knocked out, she was told by the taxi guy that she was his number six victim. She was not only raped but also robbed!

When she was conscious again, she quickly went to see a doctor. The sad thing is, the doctor knew she was raped but did not advise her what to do. The doctor just let her make the decision to make or not to make a police report. Since she does not know the rapist name and also the taxi number and in great fear after this trauma, she told the doctor that she would not dare to report to the police. The doctor said since she dare not make the report, he would just have to destroy the medical report!

Because the rapist took her whole bag with her IC in it, he got her address and even has the guts to co! me straight to her house and try to be funny with her.

Please remember not to get into a taxi that smells funny and if possible don't get into a taxi alone, and if you have to do so, give a call or sms back to your friends or relatives and let them know the taxi registration number and if possible, the name of the taxi man.

Baby rodents fall onto patron's food at Pasir Ris coffee shop.

Singapore , December 29, 2008 - She was enjoying her lunch at the coffee shop when she suddenly shrieked - a newborn rat had fallen right into her plate of curry rice.

But that was not the end of Madam Josephine Dong's horror. Within 10 minutes, five more baby rats fell from the ceiling of the coffee shop.

The shocking incident took place at 2pm on Sunday in a coffee shop at Block 446, Pasir Ris Drive 6, Lianhe Wanbao reported.

Customers said they heard a strange noise coming from the ceiling while they were having their meals.

When they looked up, they saw something small and pink falling through a crack in the ceiling - right onto Madam Dong's plate.

Madam Dong, who declined to reveal her age, said: 'I didn't know what it was initially. When I looked closer, I realised that it was a newborn rat.

'Its eyes were closed and it wriggled slowly. I could even see its heart beating.'

Madam Dong, who is in the rag-and-bone trade, said she screamed and scrambled away from the table when she realised it was a rat.

Her screams alerted other customers. Soon, a crowd of curious onlookers had gathered at the coffee shop.

Madam Dong said that after the first rat fell on her plate, she heard something running around and making noises in the ceiling.

'In 10 minutes, five more newborn rats fell,' she added.

'I was so shocked I lost my appetite. It was so disgusting!'

When the Lianhe Wanbao reporter arrived at the coffee shop, three of the newborn rats had already been thrown into the rubbish bin, while the other three were left on the table.

A regular customer at the coffee shop, who was not named, said: 'My friends and I come drinking every night. In the last month, we realised that there had been a lot of noise coming from overhead.'

An HDB spokesman told Lianhe Wanbao that as the coffee shop is a rental unit, its management is responsible for pest control on the premises.

HDB had never received any complaints about the coffee shop, the spokesman added.

But it will be sending its officers to the coffee shop to assess the situation and advise the owners.

A supervisor at the coffee shop, who wished to be known only as Ms Tan, claimed that the shop had paid for professional pest control three times to get rid of the rats.

'It's not easy to exterminate the rats as they are hiding in the ceiling.'

many small holes with white color , she thought it's impossible that OREO got new product with new taste? Is it the sugar? But how come it's looked like this?

It's correct, chocolate taste, not white chocolate and there's no fruit added in it.
Expired? Still long time

Is it possible, the look is awful but actually the taste is yummy?
Finally she opened the biscuit (Sorry for my trembling hand)



Full of white small holes, look like the spoiled eggs as maggot's nest, so disgusting....luckily my friend's eyesight is sharp, how if she has bite it?
then we investigate via internet and we found it

OMG.....actually there's victim on January, and after passing ½ year, we still find same product?
Later, at midnight my friend bring 2 biscuit along with its pack return to the 7-11 shop But the white spots have disappear, it's been dissolved into the cream
Quickly, my friend opened the pack and took out another 1 biscuit again, opened and there's full of that disgusting thing
Luckily the shop staff was willing to give the money back, but don't know when the goods will be wiped out from their rack (maybe the staff who in charge in the midnight shift are busier)

He gave us the reason is: the goods are import product, probably there's problem during the process of shipment

OMG, one of the giant companies with the huge advertisement, why such problem can happens?

How is the OREO production company? Last ½ year the same problem has happened. There's no reason for them to not improving the quality of their products?

For all friend who like to consume OREO biscuit, before bite it, hope to open your eyes widely to see beforehand.

MAGGOTS FOUND IN MC DONALD'S CURRY SAUCE

I went to the outlet at Compasspoint on 3 Sep 08 at about 10pm. I ordered 2 Double Cheeseburger and a 9 Pcs Chicken Nuggets. After which I asked for Curry Sauce and Chilli Sauce to take away.

When i got home, which was a short 2 mins ride, TO MY HORROR, when i opened the packet of curry sauce, i was greeted with a "smell" and there were many tiny maggots crawling inside with a portion of the curry sauce which have turned black and harden and possibly rotting.

I wrote in to feedback to Macdonalds the same night, and this morning (4 Sep) i had a call from a Business Manager apologising for this encounter, the first thing she asked was if i had kept the packet of curry sauce! The maggots were crawling out, obviously i had it disposed as soon as i took the photos, and in our conversation she also mentioned that this is not isolated to the outlet at Compasspoint! It was island wide as it could be a supplier problem. I think it is ridiculous! She also told me there were a few complaints already.

Shouldn't they stop giving out curry sauce while pending investigation? It was "fortunate" for me that the rotting and maggots were visible. For those packets which have not turned black may have maggots swimming in the sauce which is not known to the consumer. I asked her if they do check the expiry date of the sauces, she mentioned that the turnover for curry sauce is very high thus unlikely it would hit past the expiry date. Then my question is, if it is not even past its expiry date and it is rotting with maggots, what's going on???

This just serves as a warning to fellow Macdonalds consumers to watch out before dipping your food into curry sauce, you may not know what is swimming and growing in there...

Rats fall from ceiling of restaurant: Source of rats being investigated, says McDonalds



On September 8, STOMP received an e-mail from STOMPer Nightwind about his encounter that involved rats falling from the ceiling of a Tampines branch of McDonald's.







In the original e-mail, Nightwind says:

“At about 9.30pm today, September 6 2008, I was at the 24-hour Mcdonald's outlet located at Tampines Central 1 Blk 513, between Tampines Bus Interchange and CPF building, when rats started falling from the holes in the false ceiling.

“Initially it was just a group of about five or six teenage girls who started exclaiming and screaming in the direction of my table.

“My friends and I thought that maybe a cat wandered into the restaurant and we started looking around.

“The intermittent screaming also attracted the stares of surrounding patrons.

“My friends started noticing small black objects falling from the ceiling.

“It’s then that two rats fell from the ceiling behind me and landed on the floor inches away from me. More screaming.

“Everyone then quickly cleared the area under the false ceiling.

“The teenage girls -- still screaming -- quickly left the restaurant.

“More than half a dozen baby rats fell from the ceiling and were scurrying everywhere.

“The McDonald's staff scrambled to chase after the rats.

“They were also trying to assure everyone that there were no more rats in the ceiling.

“The manager and staff quickly caught several of the baby rats, and took them outside the restaurant, presumably to throw them onto the grass patches.

“They continued to assure everyone that there were no more rats, and that's when another baby rat poked out from one of the ceiling holes.

“I took a picture with my phone at this time, though the rat cannot be clearly seen.

“The manager climbed onto a chair and tried to hit the baby rat to dislodge it, and the rat fell onto the floor stunned.

“He then picked up the rat and ran outside. The rest of the staff quickly caught the rest of the rats and removed them from the premises.

“Failing to convince anyone that there are no more rats in the ceiling, the staff then put up notices not to occupy those seats, and started taping black plastic bags to the ceiling holes.

“Many patrons were puzzled regarding the ‘reserved seats’ and the covered holes in the ceiling.

“McDonald's did not provide any explanation, try to talk to any of the patrons, or make any further effort to prevent anyone from occupying the seats beneath the false ceiling.

“They basically tried to pretend that nothing ever happened.

“By the time I left, about 1 hour 30 minutes after the ‘rat fallout’, several of the taped up black bags were already starting to fall off.

“I think that McDonald's is rather irresponsible in that they had no guarantee that no rats were going to be falling from their ceiling again, letting people sit beneath the ceiling holes.

“I've had some experience with dealing with rats from my army days, and seeing that all the rats that fell are baby rats, there's probably a whole infestation of rats in the ceiling.

“So I am very sure there are more rats in there.

“Following the incident, I have made a call to NEA and The New Paper.

“As I patronise this outlet frequently, I hope they can clean up soon.

“I shudder to think of rats falling on my head next time."

STOMP has since contacted McDonald's regarding the issue and in a response dated September 9, Linda Ming, a Senior Communications Manager for the company, says:

"We refer to your query dated 8 September 2008, prompted by a customer email on rodents falling from the ceiling.

"At McDonald’s, we are committed to providing our customers with an enjoyable dining experience in a clean and safe environment.

"Cleanliness is one of the basic fundamentals that we never compromise on in this business.

"Apart from rigorous daily cleaning and regular maintenance and checks, we also work very closely with the relevant agencies and community to maintain the highest standards of cleanliness in our restaurants and trading area.

"We have investigated the incident with representatives from the Tampines Town Council and the National Environment Agency (NEA). As the ceiling area is not exclusive to McDonald’s, the Town Council will be working closely with NEA to trace and eliminate the source of the problem.

"Additionally, to ensure the incident will not recur in our restaurant, we are taking immediate steps to seal up access to the ceiling above the restaurant.

"The situation is the first and an isolated one.

"Please be assured that we will continue to co-operate with the Town Council and NEA to monitor the situation very closely".

TAIPEI - A TAIWANESE woman plunged from a rooftop in what was believed to be a suicide attempt, but landed on and killed a passer-by, local media reported yesterday.

Ms Kuo Mei-hui, 64, fell from the roof of a five-storey apartment building in Chungho city near Taipei at about 2pm last Saturday, the Liberty Times reported.

She landed on 53-year-old Ms Lee Mei-yun, who was returning home with her husband, the report said.

Ms Lee had moved below the building's awning to avoid an oncoming vehicle, only to have Ms Kuo land on her instead.

Both women fell to the ground and were seriously injured.

Ms Lee later died in hospital from a brain haemorrhage, while Ms Kuo survived.

A report in the China Post quoted Ms Kuo's neighbours as saying that she had been ill for a long time and had attempted suicide several times.

Taiwan has one of the highest suicide rates in Asia. Last year, more than 3,900 Taiwanese killed themselves, an average of one suicide every two hours.

The world is getting sicker and a more unsafe place! Don't know how accurate these stories are, but better to be aware than be ignorant.
==============================This is a true story, it has been confirmed, and the Medical Centre phone number at the end of this story is real. This guy went out on a Saturday night a few weeks ago to a party. He was having a good time and had a couple of beers and some girl seemed to like him & invited him to go to another party.

He quickly agreed & decided to go along with her. She took him to a party in some apartment and they continued to drink & even got involved with some drug (unknown). The next thing he knew, he woke up completely naked in a bathtub filled with ice.

He looked down at his chest, which had 'CALL 000 or YOU'LL DIE' written on it with lipstick. He saw a phone was on a stand next to the tub so he picked it up & dialled. He explained to the EMS operator what the situation was & that he didn't know where he was, what he took, or why he was really calling. She advised him to get out of the tub. He did, and he appeared normal, so she told him to check his back. He did, and found two 9 inch slits on his lower back.

She told him to get back into the tub immediately, and they sent a rescue team over. Apparently, after being examined, he found out more - His kidneys were stolen. They were worth $10,000 each on the black market. He is currently in the hospital on a life support, awaiting a spare kidney.

I wish to warn you about a new crime ring that is targeting business travellers. This ring is well organized and well funded, has very skilled personnel & is currently operating in most major cities around the world and recently very active in Sydney .

The crime begins when a business traveller goes to a lounge for a drink at the end of the work day. A person in the bar walks up as they sit alone and offers to buy them a drink. The last thing the traveller remembers until they wake up in a hotel room bathtub, their body submerged to their neck in ice, is sipping that drink. There is a note taped to the wall instructing them not to move and to call 000. A phone is on the small table next to the bathtub for them to call. The business traveller calls 000 who have been quite familiar with this crime.

The business traveller is instructed by the 000 operator to very slowly and carefully reach behind them and feel there is a tube protruding from the back. The business traveller finds the tube and answers 'YES'. The 000 operator tells them to remain still, having already sent paramedics to help. The Operator knows that both of the traveller's kidneys had been harvested. This is not a scam or out of science fiction novel. It is real. It is documented and confirmable.

If you travel or someone close to you travels, please be careful. Sadly, this is very true. I REALLY WANT AS MANY PEOPLE TO SEE THIS AS POSSIBLE SO PLEASE BOUNCE THIS TO WHOEVER YOU CAN.

I was approached yesterday afternoon around 3.30 pm in the Car parking lot by two males, asking what kind of perfume I was wearing. Then they asked if I'd like to sample some fabulous Scent they were willing to sell me at a very reasonable rate. I probably would have agreed had I not received an email some weeks ago, warning of this scam.

The men continued to stand between parked cars, I guess to wait for someone else to hit on. I stopped a lady going towards them, I pointed at them and told her about how I was sent an email at Work about someone walking up to you at the malls, in parking lots, asking you to sniff perfume that they are selling at a cheap price.

THIS IS NOT PERFUME - IT IS ETHER!

When you sniff it, you'll pass out and they'll take your wallet, your valuables, and heaven knows what else. If it were not for this email, I probably would have sniffed the 'perfume', but thanks to the generosity of an emailing friend, I was spared whatever might have happened to me, and wanted to do the same for you.

CHINA 5.12 EARTHQUAKE

Hello. This is Coco Wang.

As you know the breaking news of 5.12 Earthquake in China, almost all the TV channels in Chinaare broadcasting 24 hours non-stop of every development and stories of all the rescue operations in all damaged locations.

I don't know how much information the BBC or any UKmedia received from us, I imagine the UKaudiences were presented with the major developments of the incident, but you are probably unaware of many important and inside details which are only known to people inside China.

The amount of incredibly moving stories of victims, rescuers, and volunteers is simply shocking at the moment. I have been collecting newspapers of all the stories, and telling them in the form of comic strips. I hope these stories could show the UKreaders the love, warmth and courage of the Chinese people, also the sad and cruel reality of the horrible 5.12 Earthquake.

I am back home in Beijingnow. Thousands of heart-breaking stories are happening 24 hours non-stop everyday, some are so sad that you can hardly bear, some are incredibly moving that you just can't stop crying... I wanted to go to the front to help with all those people, some of my friends have already gone there, but I heard that the traffic needed to be kept totally clear for rescue transportation at the moment, people like me without knowledge of first-aid and experience of rescue operations going there now would cause choas and trouble... but I can't just sit at home and do nothing, I have been crying my eyes out in the past three days, I have never felt more proud of my country and people... their love, courage and kindness rock me to my core! I have decided to tell these touching stories by drawing comics. I am going to send you comic strips almost everyday from now on, I hope you could know something about the earthquake in China, although you don't have to do anything, but I hope you could feel our love and hope.

Odin is six years old and 10 feet long from tail to nose. Odin lives at a Zoo in Vallejo, California, near San Francisco .

Odin was hand-raised at the zoo. And after he was weaned, his British trainer Lee Munro discovered his remarkable skill.

When a lump of meat was thrown into a pool of water, Odin would happily dive in after it.
"He makes a funny face - and it's actually to close his nostrils to stop the water from going into his nose."

Not all big cats enjoy the water but for Tigers from the hot climate of South-East Asia it's one way to cool down.

"Plus they hunt in and around water. They're an ambush predator so they wait for prey to come down to the water."

"When you actually see him dive underwater he looks so graceful,"

"Odin loves the water and he loves food," he said. "Not all big cats will dive and swim underwater even for meat treats."

Munro said tigers were the most powerful swimmers out of all land-dwelling animals.

Tragically, within our lifetimes, zoos might be the only places left to see these magnificent animals.

A century ago there were about 100,000 tigers in the wild. Now there are just 2,500 adults, with the Bengal variety almost extinct. None has been seen in the wild since the last white tiger was shot and killed in 1958.

White tigers are the most rare. They get their white color from an unusual and extremely rare genetic combination.

Since all of us have ATM card(s), i would like to share this important news.
My friend saw a man before at Novena MRT ATM trying to get all the receipts out of the ATM bin..

Please read the following message from a friend of mine, it's true.

Please be careful, it's not a joke.......Be careful when u draw cash from ATM with receipt which complete with your account number. Never, never throw the receipt in the public even if u must tear into small pieces before throwing it away. Today, just got a call from my sister that she had lost all her cash from her account whereby she threw the receipt into the bin provided at ATM recently. Luckily, she only has $633/= in her account. Not much of suspicious when she was left with $11/= because she thought it was her petrol GIRO payment, however, that ' s not true. She only got to know it when the petrol company, mobil cut-off the petrol card's transaction that she realized something is wrong.

After checking with the bank, she was told that now there is this syndicate who will pick up the ATM receipt & with their IT expert, they are able to draw out your money. The bank will not be able to trace where these people had drawn the money & how they do it, don't ask me, even the bank also can' t answer it. They only can advise you to report the case to the police for investigation. My sister is the third victim in this month.

An incredible love story has come out of China recently and managed
to
touch the world. It is a story of a man and

an older woman who ran off to live and love each other in peace for
over
half a century.

Over 50 years ago, Liu, a 19 year-old boy, fell in love with a 29
year-old widowed mother named Xu. At

that time, it was unacceptable and immoral for a young man to love
an
older woman. To avoid the market gossip,

the couple decided to elope and lived in a cave in Jiangjin County in
Southern ChongQing area.


In the beginning, they had nothing, no electricity or even food. They
had
to eat grass and roots they found in the mountain, and Liu made a
kerosene
lamp that they used to light up their lives.

In the second year of living in the mountain, Liu began and continued
for over
50 years, to hand-carve the steps so that his wife could get down the
mountain easily.

Half a century later in 2001, a group of adventurers were exploring
the
forest and were surprised to find the elderly couple and the over
6,000
hand-carved steps. The couple had lived in peace for over 50 years
until last week. Liu, now 72 years, returned from his daily farm work
and
collapsed. Xu sat and prayed with her husband.

As he passed away in her arms. So in love with Xu, was Liu, that no
one
was able to release the grip he had on his wife's hand even after he
had
passed away.

In 2006, their story had became one of the top 10 love stories from
China ,
collected by the Chinese Women Weekly. The local government has
decided
to preserve the love ladder and the place they lived as a museum,
so this love story can live forever.


Love... How many of us really, truly know the meaning?

A Mother's Love

There were so many touching stories from the SiChuan earthquake. I cried so many times watching the news coverage in the past week. But this forward from a friend has to rank as one of the most touching. As a salut to this mom, I have translated the original into English, so my non-Chinese-speaking friends could read it, and pass it around, too. It's a story that should not stay only within the Chinese community.

抢救人员发现她的时候，她已经死了，是被垮塌下来的房子压死的，透过那一堆废墟的的间隙可以看到她死亡的姿势，
When rescuers found her, she was already dead, crushed by the collapsed house. Through gaps in the rubbles, they could see her posture.
双膝跪着，整个上身向前匍匐着，双手扶着地支撑着身体，有些象古人行跪拜礼，只是身体被压的变形了，看上去有些诡异。
Kneeling on both knees, her entire upper body bent forward, held up by her two hands pressed against the ground, as if performing the ceremonial bow in an ancient ritual. Except, her body had been compressed out of shape and looked somewhat eerie.

救援人员从废墟的空隙伸手进去确认了她已经死亡，又在冲着废墟喊了几声，用撬棍在在砖头上敲了几下，里面没有任何回应。
A rescuer extended his hand through a gap and confirmed her death. He called out to her, and tapped on the bricks with his shaft, but received no response.

当人群走到下一个建筑物的时候，救援队长忽然往回跑，边跑变喊"快过来"。他又来到她的尸体前，费力的把手伸进女人的身子底下摸索，
As the team walked toward next building, the squad leader suddenly turned back, yelling as he ran, "Come quick!" He came to her remain, labored to maneuver his hand under her body, searching.

他摸了几下高声的喊"有人，有个孩子，还活着"。
He called out following some rummaging, "There's someone, a child, still alive."


经过一番努力，人们小心的把挡着她的废墟清理开，在她的身体下面躺着她的孩子，包在一个红色带黄花的小被子里，大概有3、4个月大，
With some effort, rescuers carefully removed the debris burying her, found her child lying beneath her, bundled in a little red blanket decorated with yellow flower prints. He was about 3-4 months old.

因为母亲身体庇护着，他毫发未伤，抱出来的时候，他还安静的睡着，他熟睡的脸让所有在场的人感到很温暖。
Shielded by his mother's body , he was totally unharmed, sleeping peacefully as he was brought out. His soundly asleep face warmed the hearts of all rescuers on the scene.

　 随行的医生过来解开被子准备做些检查，发现有一部手机塞在被子里，医生下意识的看了下手机屏幕，发现屏幕上是一条已经写好的短信
As the rescue team's doctor unbundled the blanket to examine the baby, he discovered a mobile phone tucked into the blanket. He subconsciously looked at the display, found there was a SMS message.

"亲爱的宝贝，如果你能活着，一定要记住我爱你"，看惯了生离死别的医生却在这一刻落泪了，手机传递着，每个看到短信的人都落泪了。
"My Dear Baby, If you were to stay alive, you must remember that I love you." No stranger to the pain and sorrow brought by death, the doctor nonetheless wept at this moment. The cell phone was pa ssed around, every person who read the message wept.
